Sampling without system breaks for Dürr AG

A sampling process, an ERP integration, zero system breaks

Dürr AG is digitizing the sampling process with inforum and seamlessly integrating it into its existing SAP landscape.

The Dürr Group is a leading global manufacturer of machinery and industrial plants, with particular expertise in the technology fields of automation, digitalization, and energy efficiency. With complex supply chains and high quality requirements, the sampling process, that is, the structured inspection and approval of supplier parts before series production, is a central area of focus. This sampling process was to be mapped digitally. Dürr was looking for a solution that integrated seamlessly into the existing SAP infrastructure, without system breaks, without parallel data storage, and without manual handoffs between systems.

Project Overview

Client: Dürr AG
Industry: Mechanical and Plant Engineering
Headquarters: Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany

Key Facts:
• Digital sampling
• Compliant with VDA PPF and AIAG PPAP
• Bidirectional SAP integration
• 300+ active users
• No system breaks

Why JAWA and inforum?

JAWA brought two key strengths to this project: a field-proven sampling module at the interface between supplier management and quality management , as well as the technical flexibility for deep integration into existing system landscapes.
The inforum Management Software supports standard-compliant planning, execution, and documentation of sampling in accordance with VDA PPF and AIAG PPAP, and enables end-to-end digital control of all sampling steps, from initial setup through coordination to final approval. All relevant documents, test reports, and records are centrally recorded and documented, ensuring transparency and traceability at all times.
Dürr was thus able to build on a proven workflow for sampling processes and tailor it specifically to its own requirements. The fact that JAWA operates on an equal footing with Dürr during project implementation, not only technically but also in terms of expertise, is due to its many years of industry experience and deep process knowledge in mechanical and plant engineering .

Technical implementation

At Dürr, the inforum sampling module was introduced on the basis of the proven standard workflow. The technical core of the project is the bidirectional interface between inforum and SAP. The solution was designed so that the entire business process remains anchored in SAP, while inforum is seamlessly integrated as a specialized system for sampling. An order in SAP automatically initiates a sampling case in inforum. Master data for parts and suppliers is taken directly from SAP and linked to the respective sampling case in inforum. The complete processing takes place in inforum, including inspection, documentation, and evaluation. The result, suitable for series production or not, is then automatically returned to SAP and updated there. If a result is not suitable for series production, a re-sampling can be triggered directly from within the process. A particular technical challenge was the transfer not only of data, but also of files via an asynchronous interface.

Ergebnisse und Mehrwert

With the introduction of inforum, Dürr has fully digitized the sampling process and seamlessly integrated it into its existing SAP infrastructure. More than 300 users, including internal employees from quality management and external suppliers, have been working in a shared system ever since. The greatest added value lies in the end-to-end process integration. inforum is not a standalone solution but is established as an integral part of the SAP process. Master data is automatically synchronized, results flow back into SAP without manual intervention, and the status of every sampling can be transparently tracked at any time. Media breaks and parallel data storage are a thing of the past.
For quality management , this means not only increased efficiency but also significantly greater process reliability. Clear responsibilities, structured workflows, and seamless documentation create the foundation for traceable decisions throughout the entire supply chain.

Customer perspective

3 Questions for Simon Paulwitz, Strategic Quality Management at Dürr Systems AG.

What has concretely improved since the introduction of inforum?
Since the introduction of inforum, there have been no more data silos. Data flows through the interface and no longer needs to be manually transferred to different systems. All information related to a sampling process is stored in one place, and communication takes place via the platform rather than via email. Overall, we have greater transparency throughout the entire sampling process.

How did you experience working with the JAWA team?
The collaboration went smoothly and was conducted on an equal footing. Whenever we had questions about the process, we received prompt feedback. JAWA’s best practices were helpful, so we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Would you recommend inforum?
Yes. It’s a good solution that can be adapted to the mechanical and plant engineering sector, and the process was straightforward and solution-oriented.
